Week 3 Risers/Fallers

Risers



Marion Barber-Marion keeps getting more carries and Julius keeps getting less. Becoming a must-start running back.

Brian Leonard-Kind of obvious, but a must-grab right away and Steven Jackson's injury could linger.

Brandon Marshall-Jay Cutler looked his way all day sunday and Marshall has put up 3 straight solid games and has been consistent so far. As Cutler continues to improve, so will Marshall.

Fallers

Marc Bulger/Steven Jackson-The St. Louis offense is in disarray with the news of Jackson's injury. They managed only 3 points versus against a weak Tampa Bay defense. The loss of Pace has really hit them hard this year and it will get worse before it gets better. Don't sell low, but don't expect great things in the coming weeks.

Maurice Jones-Drew-He simply shouldn't be in any starting line-ups until he shows he can do something. The Greg Jones touchdown was a knife in the stomach to MJD owners everywhere. Fred Taylor is still getting carries and MJD isn't getting the goal line touches, so not much value here, but don't drop yet.

Rudi Johnson-Had his 2nd bad game this year and this one was atrocious. 9 yards on 17 carries is simply unacceptable. Only touchdown came on a reception in week 2 and the
Bengals can't seem to get it going on the ground. You have to keep him in the line-up for now but temper your expectations.

Week 1 Fallers

Ronnie Brown-I really didn't think he could fall much farther, but he did. He only got 11 carries and while he did receive more than Jesse Chatman, the timesharing is certainly a concern. Ronnie averaged a paltry 2.9 yards a carry and Chatman received both goal line carries. There is two bright spots for Ronnie, however. For one, he had a decent receiving day catching 6 balls for 40 yards. Lastly, Chatman was even more awful. He only got 15 yards on 7 carries and also lost a fumble and was stuffed on both of the aforementioned goal line attempts. Bench both Miami RB's for now, but do not drop them just yet.

Vernon Davis-Everyone's favorite sleeper tight end broke a lot of hearts late Monday night. The San Francisco looked awful on all cylinders and Vernon Davis was held to two catches for four yards. That's downright abysmal for fantasy owners expecting a breakout season (me included). I think Vernon's goose egg performance points more towards the ineptitude of Alex Smith and the rest of the 49ers offense than it does to Vernon himself. Until they improve though, Vernon is not an automatic start if blessed with other TE options.

Jacksonville WR's-There was really nothing to be excited about in either of the passing games of Tennessee and Jacksonville, but those looking for sleepers receivers need to look elsewhere. Great things always seem to be expected of Matt Jones and he responded with 0 catches on Sunday which tied him with inactive teammate Reggie Williams.

Steven Jackson-Not a good week for the #2 overall pick in fantasy leagues. First he struggles against the Panthers with only 58 yards on 18 carries, not to mention to mention that he lost 2 fumbles. Another interesting point is he only had 1 catch after having 90 last year. After the game, we found out that stud offensive tackle Orlando Pace will miss the rest of the season. The seemingly fail-safe running back now has some causes for concern.

Mark Clayton-I know there was some concern over injury, but come on, 0 catches? Not only that, but Steve McNair looked absolutely awful against a weak Bengals defense. Mark isn't such a sexy sleeper anymore.

Deion Branch/Darrell Jackson-The former teammates combined for 4 catches and 36 yards with Jackson having all 4 catches. Like I said with Vernon Davis earlier, the 49ers passing game is just awful and no one will get catches with the line blocking the way they are. As with Branch, how do you not get one catch? Seattle may have to pass more in upcoming weeks, but I'm still not very excited about Branch's value and he seems to have been overvalued just like his former teammate.

Week 1 Risers and Pick-Ups

Risers

Randy Moss-The biggest surprise of Sunday was Randy Moss coming through with a big game despite not playing the entire preseason. While I'm hesitant to rank Moss as a top 10 WR, I do think this could be a sign of things to come. Many NFL and Fantasy analysts will say Tom Brady spreads the ball around and Moss was just his flavor of the week. Tom Brady's most talented receiver before this year was Deion Branch, so of course he's always spread the ball around. Now that he has Moss, I think Brady will target him often and he could return to the Moss of old. Remember When TO came to Philly and everyone said Mcnabb likes to spread the ball around. Well, both TO and Mcnabb had spectacular seasons and look for the same from Brady and Moss.

Adrian Peterson-His breakout game came much earlier than expected as Chester Taylor went down early and what a game it was. Adrian exploded for 103 yards on 19 carries and one of the plays of the week as he took a 60 yard swing pass for a touchdown. Even if Chester comes back next, I think Adrian made it clear he is the best RB on this team. I expect at least 16-18 carries a week and for him to be a top 15 RB the rest of the way and a top 10 RB if Chester is out longer than expected. Minnesota has a spectacular offensive line and they are committed to the run.

Chris Brown-Sunday's rushing leader wasn't even the clear cut starter for his team. That'll change after this week's 175 yard explosion. He seemed to resolve the committee as Lendale White struggled a bit averaging less than 4 yards a carry. Expect the Titans to run a lot as they have no playmakers at the receiving position and Vince Young is not known for his throwing. Pick him up immediately if available in your leagues.

Jason Witten-Looking back, it seems he was very underrated coming into the season. He did only have 1 touchdown last year but he did have good yardage totals. Romo targeted him often against the Giants and Witten made the most of the opportunity catching 6 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. Expect more touchdowns in the future as the Cowboys' offense is flying on all cylinders.

Lamont Jordan-One of last year's most hated players is back and shined in a loss to the Lions Sunday. Yea, he had a solid rushing day going for 70 yards and a score, but what's more important is the receiving yards. Lamont had a 70 catch season in 2005 and then only had 10 catches in 2006. Ten! Yesterday, he caught 9 for 89 yards and Lamont shoots up the rankings in PPR leagues. The catches doesn't seem to be a fluke as the new coaching staff looks like it made it a priority to get Lamont the ball.

Pick-ups to Make



1. Derrick Ward-The severity of Brandon Jacobs' injury is not yet known, but grab Ward for now to provide depth and could be a possible filler if Jacobs is to miss time.
2. Ronald Curry-I know it was the Lions, but the Raiders' offense actually looked respectable and Curry is the number one receiver; grab him now.
3. Kenton Keith-A must-add for Addai owners and worth a pick-up even if you don't have Addai. Joseph has never handled a full load and could break down the stretch and Keith is one play away from being the starter.
4. Wes Welker-With Moss and Stallworth streaking down the field and dragging attention, Welker constantly gets open underneath and Brady will find him.
